Instrumental is looking to hire a Journalist in Residence to scale our Build Better efforts. Your role will involve creating and pitching ideas, trend-jacking timely topics, developing sources for interviews and events, and producing high-quality journalistic content in various formats. You will work closely with our marketing team, subject matter experts, and C-suite executives to grow our organic audience and establish Build Better as a leading knowledge resource in electronics manufacturing. Responsibilities include: Pitch relevant and timely content ideas that resonate with industry leaders and address current pain points. Develop and execute a flexible content plan, quickly adapting to industry developments. Build and leverage a network of sources for stories, interviews, and insights. Write compelling, knowledge-first stories and articles for print, web, and other media, maintaining credibility and clarity for a technical audience. Ideal Candidate Profile: Fluency in electronics manufacturing, with understanding of high-volume electronics, networking, data centers, or defense sectors. Exceptional writing skills tailored to industry professionals. Proven ability to develop or tap into a network of sources. Strong story-idea generation skills and insightful questioning. Bonus: Engineering background, experience covering electronics supply chain as a journalist, or startup/hardware experience. This role is open to candidates with a broad range of seniority levels. The approximate annual base salary for mid-level candidates in the Bay Area is $120,000 - $145,000, with salary and level determined through the interview process.
